Updates to ENBREL
ENBREL Safety Information Update:
Amgen Canada, in collaboration with Health Canada, issued a Public Communication on April 21, 2009 to inform Healthcare professionals and patients taking ENBREL of the risk of invasive fungal infections, including histoplasmosis, in patients taking TNF blockers, including ENBREL. This communication was to help patients and their healthcare professionals better recognize and treat these infections.
Patients with questions regarding their current treatment are asked to contact their doctor or pharmacist. A letter has been sent to Canadian healthcare professionals to inform them of this update and includes a description of symptoms.
A copy of the Public Communication and the healthcare professional letter can be found on the Health Canada website http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/medeff/advisories-avis/public/_2009/enbrel_pc-cp-eng.php
